WHAT IS THE MEANING OF A MANDALA?
The meaning of the word mandala in Sanskrit is "circle". The mandala is a spiritual and ritualistic symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. The circular patterns symbolize the idea that life is endless and everything is interconnected.
The mandala also represents the viewer's spiritual journey. The first level is the understanding of cosmic unity, and the second level is where each individual must find their place in the universe. It is sometimes drawn as a circle surrounding a square with a deity on each side.
It is mainly used to assist in meditation and yoga. Mandalas have many uses beyond meditation, as the designs are meant to eliminate irritating thoughts and allow the creative mind to free itself, promoting relaxation. Ultimately, people create and look at mandalas to recenter their bodies and minds.
HOW TO USE MANDALAS IN MEDITATION?
The primary use of mandalas is as a form of meditation that enables gaining knowledge from within. Mandalas are symbolic images that, when meditated upon, can bring profound inner transformation.
The first step is to choose a mandala that strongly attracts you. Then, you focus on the intention you wish to bring into your life, and then immerse yourself in the beautiful mandala design by gently contemplating it. If your mind starts to dwell on everyday stress, simply bring your attention back to the beauty of the mandala.
The beauty of the mandala should absorb all your attention, being drawn in by the patterns and colors. Gradually, you'll feel more relaxed, and a sense of lightness and intuitive thoughts may appear. Let yourself go, and if your thoughts begin to wander, relax and refocus your attention on the mandala. The first time you meditate on the mandala, start with 5 minutes and gradually increase to 15 minutes as you gain experience.
